Creamy thick protein cookie dough with chocolate chips on a white plate, showing a smooth and scoopable texture

Healthy Protein Cookie Dough That Actually Tastes Like the Real Thing (Ready in 5 Minutes)

This recipe uses exactly five ingredients (including water), takes about five minutes, and tastes so much like traditional cookie dough that my kids actually asked me if I was 'sure' it was the healthy stuff. It's my go-to high-protein snack when a sugar craving hits at 9 PM, and I've made it easily forty times now.

Equipment

  • Small Bowl
  • Whisk or fork
  • Tablespoon measuring spoon
  • Spoon or spatula

Ingredients

Ingredients

  • 1 cup vanilla protein powder 100g
  • 1/2 cup peanut butter 125g
  • 1/4 cup maple syrup 60ml
  • 1-4 tablespoons water Start with 1 tablespoon and add more until dough reaches desired consistency
  • 1/4 cup chocolate chips 40g, optional

Instructions

  • Whisk the wet ingredients: In a small bowl, combine the peanut butter and maple syrup. Whisk them together until they're completely smooth and fully incorporated. This step is important — if the peanut butter isn't fully mixed with the syrup, your dough will have dry spots.
  • Add the protein powder: Dump the vanilla protein powder into the bowl on top of the wet mixture. Stir it together with your spoon or spatula until a thick, crumbly texture forms. It will look a bit like wet sand at this point — that's exactly what we want.
  • Add water, one tablespoon at a time: Using your tablespoon measure, add the water one spoonful at a time. Mix well after each addition. Watch the dough transform from crumbly to thick, soft, and scoopable. You want a texture that looks and feels like classic cookie dough. I usually need about 2 tablespoons, but your protein powder might need more or less.
  • Fold through the chocolate chips: Once the dough is at the perfect consistency, fold the chocolate chips in with a spoon. At this point, the dough should hold together easily when pressed with a spoon. If it's still too crumbly, add another teaspoon of water.
  • Enjoy or chill: You can eat it immediately — it's perfectly safe and delicious. However, if you want a firmer, more 'legit' cookie dough experience, cover the bowl and pop it in the fridge for 30 minutes. The texture firms up beautifully.
